This week, Madi (MadRob Photography) and I sat down on her podcast Talk Photo to Me and finally broke the ice on one of our favorite wedding photography topics: wedding day ICKS. Oh yeah.. the kind that make every photographer collectively stare into the camera like we’re on The Office.  It’s gonna get spicy.  And we might upset some people. Dear clients, I still love you SO much. 

We started with the classic: wearing white to a wedding. Why is this still happening in 2025? The day isnt about you!!! We discussed how much white is too much white and what you can get away with when you’re the guest to the wedding. 

Then we got into Uncle Bob, the unofficial second photographer nobody hired. There’s always one. He’s got his Canon Rebel, his strap, and a mission to stand directly in my shot all day.

We also talked about ceremonies at high noon, AKA “Welcome to everyone’s worst lighting nightmare.” And of course, Momzillas. The moms who love their children deeply… and also love micromanaging the shot list like it's their own wedding. 

We dove into guests telling photographers which shots to get, cell phones blocking every ceremony moment, and the bold move of not feeding your vendors (I promise we are okay.. Sometimes…. Please feed your vendors).

We also covered the ick of expecting photographers to shoot nonstop, as if we’re drones instead of humans with spines. And don’t get us started on posting big moments before the bride does, or the ultimate crime: editing over your photographer’s edits.

Oh — and the garter tosses. Maybe you can already guess what we will say about that.
